Umtha was required to recruit survey workers that would conduct the Water and Sanitation Customer Satisfaction Survey, and also provide them with training on how to go about conducting the survey. The survey workers were taken through a 2-day training course on:

  • How to conduct themselves when performing door to door interviews;
  • How to administer the survey questionnaire, which had to be captured on an electronic device;
  • What every question entailed, so that the survey workers could translate or explain the questions to the survey participants;

The survey consisted of 3 questionnaires – for Informal Households, Formal Residential Households and Businesses. Umtha was also responsible for monitoring the survey workers on site.
